Ebisu, Shibuya. This is a super-dense mixed neighborhood in the heart of Tokyo, and the typology of this tall skinny, semi-brutalist concrete residential building was striking and fairly common. There were quite a number of interesting tall skinny buildings in Ebisu, and it was hard to know which to draw. This one was striking due to the variation of the glazing, which makes it damn hard to find a floor level - and gives back a lot of interest to the street. The rhythm of the adjacent outdoor egress stairwell is very common in Tokyo. The marble square arch at the base was a bit incongruous…
